Philip Hacker is a lifelong ceramic artist whose relationship with clay began in Florida at just five years old—when his first experiment in “pottery” involved placing a clump of mud on his brother’s record player to see what would happen. That early act of curiosity sparked a passion that never left him. He went on to study art and pottery formally, taking classes at Pensacola Junior College and the University of Florida, grounding his enthusiasm in disciplined training. Pottery has remained central to his life, including forty years working in a studio in Los Angeles, where he developed a refined and confident artistic voice. Three years ago, he relocated to Hendersonville, North Carolina, joining the Glassman Clay Studio and continuing to expand his practice. He is especially drawn to traditional forms and large-scale pieces, with a particular love for generously proportioned bowls that balance strength and elegance. In addition to his studio work, Philip serves as Vice President of the Art League of Henderson County and is a sponsor of the Glassman Clay Studio, actively supporting and strengthening the regional arts community.
